FAQ's
What type of wax is used for The Kennedy Estate Co. candles?
Paraffin wax Blend
Is paraffin wax considered natural?
although paraffin wax comes from a natural source, it usually isn't considered a natural wax.
How/What is the best way to care for my candle?
* Trim your wick before each burn
* The first burn is important. You want to ensure that the first layer has completely liquified on your first burn
* Keep it clean
* Be safe. The surrounding of the candle is just as important the safety precautions taken to light the candle.
* Four hour increment burn times is best
* Minimize mess when putting out your candle
* Retire your candle while there is still a small amount of wax in it.
* If possible, store your candles in a cool dark place.
Why is it necessary to cut the wick of a candle?
Trimming the candle wick helps controls the amount of melted wax that the candle has access to, which helps limit the amount of soot it created. The trimmed wick also helps the candle burn evenly, controlling the soot and prolonging the life of the candle.
Are 3 wick candles better?
Not necessarily. 3 wick candles burn faster, but having three wicks creates a candle source with more light and flame. Which means it looks cooler. The average burn time for coco apricot creme wax burns 10-15% longer than the typical wax candle.
How do you stop your candle from tunneling?
To prevent tunneling, all you need to do is burn your candle long enough each time so that the entire top surface of wax is melted. This is especially important the first time your burn your candle! How long it takes depends mostly on the size of the candle.
Why so my candles have sinkholes?
Sinkholes occur naturally from the process of the wax setting up. A wax is heated to melt it into liquid form, the wax expands taking up more space as it changes from solid to liquid. This is the reasoning as to why sink holes can appear in your candles.
Why are candles so expensive?
For most luxury companies, it starts with the quality of the scents. While perfumes are loaded with oils that simply smell good, a candle is a careful concoction of oils that burn well. Synthetics are important, especially in candles, certain essential oils make black smoke and kill the flame. Synthetic does NOT mean cheap! The amounts of oils that go into a candle is higher than what goes into a fragrance, but the perceived value of a candle is a lot lower than a fragrance. Some of the fragrances used are so expensive, companies would lose money if we sold each candle for discounted prices.
Can the candle vessels be reused or repurposed?
Of course they can! We purposely chose vessels that look beyond mediocre so that you are able to repurpose and either refill the vessel or later use as a piece of decor. These vessels can be repurposed for whatever you like. Just to provide you with some ideas, you can repurpose these as stencil holders, coin jars, small planters, candles jars and more. Once you would like to retire your candle, place in freezer for approximately 4-6 hours. Once completey frozen, you will be able to turn candle upside down and wax will come out with ease. Any remaining residue can be scrapped out and throughly cleaned with soap and water until cleaned to your standards. Send us some pictures so we can see the creativity!
What is coco apricot creme wax made of?
It is a vegan blend of natural apricot and coconut and a minuscule amount of highly refined food-grade paraffin wax. Wax is colorless and odorless was made from cold-pressed coconut meat or coconut oil mixed with soy
Why Paraffin wax?
Paraffin wax is most widely used across candle brands because it can hold a high amount of fragrance and color. If you would like a clean burning candle that will deliver the strongest scent throw you can experience, paraffin is it for you!
Do unused wax melts lose their scent?
Average wax melts are good for approximately a week, then the scent oils seem to burn away and you're left with almost scentless wax.
Why is there black smoke coming from my candle?
This is more than likely due to you now trimming the candle before each burn, causing the candle to produce soot. It is recommended to trim wick before each burn allowing to candle to burn and wax to melt until the entire surface of the candle has melted before blowing out candle.
Why invest in expensive candle when I have cheaper options.
Whenever you are purchasing a product or a service there are always more options in regard to cost, quality and time. This depends on a number of contributing factors. Everyone has their perception of what they consider "quality" and even what they consider "expensive." This is where the details and specifics matter. Luxury candle companies take the time to determine wax selection, wick choice, fragrance, essential oils, candle vessels and packaging. Here are some things to consider if you are trying to determine if you purchase is worth it:
* Wax used - the cost of the wax differs. The type of wax determines how clean of a burn you will receive. Certain waxes to include, soy, coconut wax, and coco-apricot creme wax tend to burn 10%-15% longer (definitely allowing you to stretch your dollar) Cheaper waxes may still have a great scent throw, but they cause more production of soot and toxins to enter into the atmosphere.
* The vessel- it is obvious that a well crafted vessel tends to cost more that a plain clear glass in most cases. The size, weight, material of the vessel makes the difference as well.
* The wick- the overall size, width, and material of the wick causes prices to differ. Cotton wicks cost less than wooden wicks. Certain wicks allow the candle to burn at a slower pace extending the life of your luxury purchased candle.
* The fragrance selection - this is the most expensive thing to consider when we make candles. There is almost a science to combining certain essential oils, and scents to create the perfect fragrant oil. Each oil and or perfume cost different prices depending on popularity of scent, availability of scent, the quality of the scent selection, the season in which you purchase each scent and the overall cost in which we have to purchase in bulk in order to make candle.
* Time - Due to Covid, some supplies have been scarce, on back order, unavailable, or significantly more expensive due to the pandemic, on top of the concept of inflation.
There are other things to consider when asking yourself if its worth it, listed above is just a few.
